What is a Watershed?

The watershed covers a large part of Bucks county and a small part of Montgomery County.  It includes the Neshaminy Creek, which is a 40.7 mile stream running through Bucks county, the Little Neshaminy Creek, which is a tributary of the Neshaminy Creek, Newtown Creek, Cooks Run and 3 tributaries that are all named Mill Creek.  It covers an area of approximately 236 square miles.  The name Neshaminy derives from the Lenape Indian tribe, meaning 'the place where we drink twice'.  It is part of the Delaware River basin and runs through several parks in Bucks and Montgomery counties before it empties through Neshaminy State Park in Bensalem into the Delaware River. 

This map shows the primary watersheds and subwatersheds of Bucks County. Watershed boundaries are delineated on the map with a thick blue line. Each primary watershed is also composed of smaller “subwatersheds,” which are shown on the map in various color fills.
